The stone works well for quick removal of steel for re-profiling an edge and can be used to put an edge back on both knives and axes. The 8000 grit stone can put a shiny edge on your blade, but it is recommended to start with rougher grits and work your way up. The stones are around 5.1 mm thick, but there may be some variation due to the cast plastic backing. The stone does not come with a leather pouch anymore, instead, it comes in a plastic sleeve. The stone fits in a 4-inch knife pouch.
