GURPS Basic Set: Characters, Fourth Edition: (B&W Softcover) (GURPS Basic Set, 4th Edition (b&w), from Steve Jackson Games)

**Editorial Review of GURPS Basic Set: Characters, Fourth Edition** The GURPS Basic Set: Characters, Fourth Edition has garnered a mixed but largely positive reception from players and Game Masters (GMs) alike. Long-time fans of the series appreciate this new edition for its thoughtful updates and comprehensive content. Users note that the Characters book is essential for crafting characters across various settings, streamlining gameplay while maintaining depth. The authors are celebrated for their unique interpretations of genres such as science fiction and fantasy which resonate with both veterans and newcomers to tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs). While the 4th Edition has introduced clearer rules and a more organized structure, seasoned players acknowledge that while the system is easier to learn, mastering it requires time and dedication. The visual presentation of the book is also noted for its appealing illustrations, which enhances the overall experience and engagement. However, not all feedback has been favorable. A subset of customers has reported issues with print quality, describing their copies as poorly produced with visible errors like ink streaks and improper trimming. There are also concerns related to clarity about the book's content; some users mistakenly received art-related material instead of the expected rulebook, leading to frustrations around expectations versus reality. Overall, the GURPS Basic Set: Characters, Fourth Edition feels like a well-loved update for those familiar with the franchise, while also offering a robust entry point for new players. When it functions as intended, it performs excellently as a versatile tool for diverse tabletop adventures. **
